Vegas – First Timer

They say, either you can travel the whole world to see all the wonders or you can come to Vegas and get a feel of everything in just a stretch of 2kms.

Travel Highlights :
Nights Spent : 4 nights (days doesn’t matter in vegas)
Number of people : 3
Dates : First week of December 2015

Few months back, my manager told me that we need to go to Seattle to attend some meetings for a week. While he was explaining the important stuff that we need to do in Seattle, my traveller soul was coming alive. My mind started to scan the US map, then I saw a glittering spot on the map and it was Las Vegas. What could have been better than combining Vegas trip with Seattle trip as it is just a 2 hour flight from Vegas to Seattle.
I convinced another friend of mine who supposed to travel with us and then there was another friend in Seattle. So we were 3 musketeers all set to hit vegas for 4 nights.
Tip: Make your travel plans on company expenses.

Bangalore to Vegas
We took British Airways flight from Bangalore to Vegas via London. British Airways might not be a good option to travel for long duration flights. In case you are stuck, then some malts on the rock will be a good companion.

Vegas Airport to Vegas Strip

Strip is a stretch of few km in vegas which accommodates almost all the hotels, casinos and popular places to visit. So, it make sense that you find your accommodation on the strip.
Distance : around 5-6 miles (need to verify).
Options : If you are a solo traveller, shuttle will work best for you as it costs just 10$ for the drop. We took a taxi which cost us 25$ including tip.

The ride from airport to hotel was actually one of the best memory of the trip. Our driver was a crazy 60 year old man, who explained us nearly everything in vegas in 15 min ride including casinos, shows, popular buffets, strip clubs which took me a whole day to research back home.

Accommodation

We booked a hotel named Travelodge, which turned out to be a great budget stay due to its location. It lies in the heart of the strip and costs you 70$ per night as compared to other options which are atleast 2 times higher. Just beside our hotel was the Harley Davidson Cafe which was a great subject for a shot.

Love at first sight with Vegas Strip

The moment we entered the strip, there was so much light on the street which can lighten up 100 villages in india. I kept on looking outside the cab window like a kid, in few minutes we went from pyramid of Egypt to Statue of liberty to Brooklyn bridge and then Eiffel tower.

Bellagio Fountain is the face of Vegas from all popular movies, but there are few places which can’t be captured in the camera. Bellagio Fountain is one of those places which can’t be described by any word, picture or a video. You have to be there to feel the awesomeness of the place.

DRINK GAMBLE SLEEP REPEAT

Strip is an amazing place especially for alcohol. You can roam around on the footpath with a drink in one hand. Different types of bottles and glasses add a flavor of vegas in that too.

I have never been to any casino in my life and for first timers its altogether a whole new experience. There were 100s of slot machines, poker and black jack tables. Roulette wheels which I have seen only in movies. I didn’t know how to play poker, so I chose the safest bet. I put a 1$ note in the slot machine to figure out how it works and voila! I won 30$ at the first shot. That was the first and last big win on slot machine. You drink, play, hop to another casino and repeat. When we decide to call it a night and the moment we come out from the casino, we realizes that its 6:00 am in the morning with an amazing sunrise. Imagine this was our first night in Vegas.

Strip is for party, Downtown is for craziness

Most travellers usually don’t cover downtown, which is a place worth exploring. We took an uber from Strip to Downtown which costs us 20$. There were retro looking casinos, roadside music performances and crazy drunk crowd with cowboy outfits.

Downtown is also a hub for all kind of adventurous activities. You can do various rides and bungee jumping from stratosphere but all these rides closes at midnight, so you need to plan accordingly. Ziplining over freemont street is also a good and cheap option (20$ and 40$ variations depends on distance covered).

Vegas is 24 hr city, it never stops

Another fantastic thing to explore in vegas is the different shows going on in different hotels. You can find shows for all genres ranging from circus to musical shows to standup comedian acts. We covered BlueMan show at Hotel Luxur and Zumanity at New York New York. You can check the ticket prices on Tix4Tonight, shops which provides tickets for selected shows at half price. I would recommend don’t book the tickets of the shows in much advance except the most popular ones like BlueMan, you may get a better deal at the counter. We got a discount coupan just outside Zumanity for one free ticket on purchase of two.

We also went for a RollerCoaster ride in New York which was so amazing that we even went for a second round. You get a discount of 50%, if you go for another ride again. There is a separate queue for the front seat in the roller coaster which is definitely worth the efforts.

There are many street performers on a footpath outside the Bellagio Fountain. You must stop and appreciate the amazing talent of street performers comprise of dance, action and music performances. One signature pic with show girls is a must for your first visit to vegas.

Vegas is not just about Gamble and Parties

Vegas is a result of extreme architecture skills. The interiors of hotels are magnificent, if you are not interested in party or in casinos. You can visit each and every hotel which has its own uniquer architecture concept. The best part is that you can go inside any hotel just to see the interiors and nobody will ask you anything.
