“Over every mountain there is a path, although it may not be seen from the valley ~Theodore Roethke”. We were all set to discover these paths over the top of Zwieselalm (the alp ranges in Gosau) on our third day in Gosau.
We took a cable car to reach the top of the mountains. The starting point of the cable car was right at the Vorderer lake and we didn’t have to put any efforts into finding it. There is a lot of stuff to do near the lake or in other parts of the village, which you can check in our earlier post: (Gosau – I & Gosau -II).
Ticket price: 14.5 euro/person (for both uphill and downhill)
Timings: Cable car is operational from beginning of May to October end, the last cable car downhill is at 5 pm (Timings may vary in different months)
The view was undoubtedly amazing when we reached the top with panoramic view of the lakes below. Here, I put a hold on words and let the pictures speak.
There are several hike options once you reach the top. We came to know about the concept of mountain huts for the first time. Basically, there are several restaurants-cum-accommodations along the popular hike routes and hikers plan their trip according to these mountains huts for food and night stay.
We didn’t go for any particular hike but instead roamed around for hours, enjoyed the view and clicked some good pictures.
We couldn’t have asked for more after such an amazing view with almost no one around and then a delicious lunch with a beer made our already amazing day more awesome. There was one mountain hut very close to the cable car drop point at the top, which serves great food with a nice valley view.
It is the simplicity and non-commercialization of this scenic village which made us fall in love with it. There were no specific viewpoints where everyone will click a picture but instead every corner gives an amazing view of nature’s art.
We definitely recommend this place to anyone who is a nature lover and looking for a quiet scenic holiday destination. For information on stay and food options in the village, check out our first post on Gosau (Explore Village).
