Paris holds a special place in my heart as I started my passion for photography from the city of Paris when I was a graduate student. Six years later, I came back to this city with my DSLR, years of learning and my life partner, Anu. We decided to spend 8 days in Paris with one most important target, “Capture Eiffel tower from all possible viewpoints“.
It wasn’t a piece of cake to find the correct vantage point to capture the Eiffel Tower. After hours of roaming around the streets every day, waking up early in the morning (around 5 am) and a couple of night outs, we were able to get a good number of worthy shots of the Eiffel Tower. We decided to share our list of viewpoints and final output to help fellow passionate photographers and travelers.
The first thing everyone does in Paris is to buy a ticket and climb up the Eiffel tower. While you are waiting in the queue, just look up for this perfect frame of Eiffel Tower.
There are several great angles while you are really close to the tower, I found this one very interesting with a carousel right in front.
2. Explore the streets
People say that you can see Eiffel tower from every street around but you must choose the right one for the best view. Rue de l’Université, is exactly the one with a nice uncommon view.
3. Bir-Hakim bridge
There are several bridges on river Seine but Bir-Hakim is the one which is most famous among photographers and least famous among tourists. This place is just at a walking distance from Eiffel tower and still remains hidden from the tourists which lead to an uncommon frame of Eiffel tower. We got some of our favorite shots from this location.
4. Love locks and Paris
Love locks and Paris has a special connection which doesn’t need any introduction and to be reminded again that it is not permitted. The fun part is that after authorities put an end to love lock tradition on Pont des Arts, tourists now put locks on any random location. I read somewhere on the internet that, “Don’t lock your love but make it free instead.”
5. Walk along the Seine river
There are many possible frames if you walk along the Seine river from one bridge to another.
6. Ride a metro with a camera
This one was an unprepared shot when we took a metro and it went over the Bir-Hakim bridge but I got a very uncommon frame of Eiffel tower.
7. Montparnasse Tower
Climb up the Eiffel tower and click the amazing city of Paris is what everyone does and it is definitely great. I would rather prefer a shot of this amazing city with its iconic monument in the frame and there is no better place than Montparnasse Tower for the same. This tower is only the tallest building around Eiffel Tower and offers a great view from its panoramic rooftop.
Tip: Book your ticket online and reach there at least 1.5 hr before sunset otherwise all vantage points will be gone to setup your tripod.
8. Climb Arc de Triomphe
My second favorite place to click the Paris city with Eiffel tower in the frame is the rooftop of Arc De Triumph. This place also offers a nice view but it is not very photographer friendly like Montparnasse tower as it is more crowded and they don’t allow you to setup the tripod (but you can still try your luck as you are allowed to carry it to the top).
9. Give cliche a twist
Place du Trocadero is the most common photo spot for Eiffel Tower as it undoubtedly offers the best view and is most easily accessible but at the same time, it is the most crowded spot as well.
Tip: Tourists can afford to be lazy but photographers can’t, so get up early in the morning to reach there by 6 am and you will get the whole place to yourself.
